What is the best way to charge a Lithium ion laptop battery to extend its life?
I have a DELL Inspiron 1525. Its new and has a 6 cell Li-Ion battery. Should I always keep it connected to the mains, even when its fully charged? Or should I charge fully, disconnect from mains, run it down, then recharge? What will ensure it lasts the longest and still provides me with 3 hours of charge when I need it?

I remove my battery and store it in a cool dry place when consistently using the mains, so it doesn't get recharged every time I use the laptop (even when it's already fully charged). They say it's better to fully run down the battery when it is new before charging.
