A company manufacturing fiberglass “batt” insulation has determined that a full trailer load of product only weighs about 10,000 pounds. The trailer has a rated capacity of 40,000 pounds.
a. Does the trailer “cube out” or “weigh out”?
b. What can be done to get more product (weight) on a trailer? Discuss limitations to your approach.
Obviously it cubes out
They could try squashing the insulation in plastic vacuum bags to reduct its bulkiness. It will re-spring out when the air is readmitted to the bags.
